Do it first thing each morning
It is very easy to say that ‘I will meditate daily’ but after that forget about it. Instead of setting a reminder every morning just put a note wherever you see it, in which ‘mediate’ has been written on it.
Just do it! Dont worry about getting wrong
Most people are sorry about things like where to sit, how to sit, what type of cushion to use etc.. All these questions are correct but not as important as getting started. People can start just by sitting on a chair or on a couch or in bed. If they are comfortable on the ground then sit in a cross-legged position. It will be just for 2 minutes so just sit anyway.
Check in with how you feel
As you sit in a meditation session just checkout how you are feeling. How does your body feel? Or what is the quality of your mind? Either it is busy, tired or anxious?
Count your breaths
Now when you are settled in, so now it’s turn to count your breaths. You have just to place attention on your breath as it comes in and follow through the nose all the way down to your lungs. Count as 1 in breath in and 2 in breath out. Repeat it up to count 10.
Come back when you wander
People’s minds will be wandering and this is an almost absolute certainty. There is no problem with that when your mind wanders, smile gently and return to your breath. Count from 1 again and start over. People might feel little frustration but it is ok being not focused.
Develop a loving attitude
When you notice that you are developing your thoughts and feelings during meditation as they will then look at them with a friendly attitude. See them as your friends and not as enemies or intruders.
Don’t worry too much about wrong
At first you will be sorry for doing wrong. But that’s ok as we all do that. You are not doing wrong, actually there is no perfect way to do it. Just be happy with what you are doing.
Don’t worry about clearing the minds
Many people think that meditation is for clearing the mind and for stopping all thoughts. But it is not like that, it is not the goal of meditation. If you have thoughts then it is normal, we all have it. It is also true that our brains are thought factories and we just can’t shut them down. Instead of it just try to focus your attention and practice meditation more when the mind wanders.
Stay with whatever arises
While meditation, if thoughts and feelings arise, and they will, you might try staying with them awhile. It is true that you must return to your breath but after you practice it for a week you must try staying with a thought or feelings that automatically arise. We tend to want to avoid our frustration, anger, anxiety etc. but an amazingly useful meditation practice is to stay with a feeling for a while. You just have to stay and be curious.
Get to know yourself
This practice is not good enough for focusing your attention. It is about how your mind works. What is going on inside there? But by watching your mind wandering, get frustrated and avoid difficult feelings and start to understand yourself.
So here are the tips of how to do meditation for the beginners. Everyone should practice meditation everyday without failing for a peaceful mind, better feeling, to know yourself and many more. Once meditation becomes a habit there will be more in every other day. People can also use a meditation pillow for practice g meditation as it will be more comfortable.
